Picture
The picture has looked amazing watching Casino Royale on DVD. This is my first HDTV so I can't compare it to anything but the entire picture looks great on factory settings without any color distortion.
Sound
I was worried about sound after reading other reviews but it seems great to me. I have a fairly small living room so that might be a factor. My dad said he could hear it pretty well in the hallway outside my apartment when he was coming to check it out. So unless you have a big living room or feel the need for surround sound, I think the tv speakers work just fine.
Delivery
They carried it up the stairs and set it up in my living room. No complaints on that side of it.
I'll update later if I find anything else to say but I'd highly recommend this tv based on initial impressions.

Comment: I also got a Email that said they will contact me in a few day before the schedule, but they nevey called me. I sent some question to the customer serveice but haven't got an answer. I track my order has arrival in my local office for 2 day but they still don't contact, I'm very hurry now. It's so disappoint with my purchase on Amazon!

Summary: Caution: Known HDMI issue
Comment: I purchased the Samsung LN40A550 40" 1080p LCD HDTV on July 14, 2008. It's my 4th big screen HDTV purchase but my first 1080p box. Agree with other reviews in that it has absolute beautiful picture at a very good price. There are many feature I love about this TV, but here's the problem....
I purchased a Samsung 1080P8 upconverting DVD player with an HDMI (version 1.3) cable. When i watch a DVD, i get a 'searching for signal' message that appears on the screen for about 5 seconds. This happens once every minute or two! I went into full troubleshooting mode by replacing the cable, the DVD player, and everything else i could think of. I tried the DVD player and HDMI cable with my other HDTV sets and it worked great. After calling Samsung technical support and getting to their level 2 support in New Jersey, they acknowledged there is a problem with the HDMI connection with the TV but they do not have a firmware fix for it yet. They suggested i wait for the firmware fix (release date unknown), or return the TV and try another one. I opted to exchange the TV for the same model. I received it today and (unfortunately) it has the same problem. I will now return the TV to Amazon, get a refund, and purchase a different model.
Bottom line, if you don't use or need the HDMI connection, you should be fine with this set. However, if you plan to use HDMI I'd look to a different model until this is fixed.

Summary: Fantastic Service and TV!
Comment: I just ordered this tv from amazon on Sunday July 20th after reading the reviews and seeing how great the price was for this tv. Amazon had an estimated arrival date of July 30th but I checked with CEVA this morning and they had already recieved it. CEVA told me that it would be delivered between 11-3 today and it arrived at 11:30 in perfect condition. Talk about great service! Only took two days to get this great tv! Thank you Amazon and thank you CEVA.

Summary: Best TV available in this price range
Comment: I did a lot of research on this TV before purchasing. I went to all the big box stores and hit all the review websites and what I kept hearing was that the only LCD TVs worth looking at are either Sony or Samsung. This one in particular kept getting rave reviews from all the reviewers and salespeople I talked with. Even a salesman who worked on commission said he would recommend this TV over some that were more expensive. The general consensus was that you have to get up close to two thousand dollars to get a TV better than this in this size.
I've had this set for a few weeks now and have noticed several things. The picture is very clear, whatever source you select. I'm only running component video cables to it right now, but I'm anticipating that the picture will be even better once I get an HDMI cable on it. The menus are easy to use and easy to navigate, unlike many TVs I've owned. I've read reviews from a few folks who say that they don't like the little night light at the bottom of the frame, but if you dig into the menus a little, you can turn that on or off.
My only big complaint about this TV, and it is a reasonable one, is the sound. First off, I'm not an audiophile. I can't tell the difference between extremely good speakers and only fairly good speakers without a lot of help from someone more knowledgeable. What I do know is that my little Philips CRT 25" that I got for a few hundred bucks from Wal-mart had sound that blows this TV out of the water. I don't push this TV too hard, and have never turned the volume up more than 1/3 of its capacity. Even so, when you get high sections in a song or something, the speakers make a really weird sound that I haven't heard from anything but an extremely cheap boom box. It's really frustrating to have a great picture and have the sound be so weak.
I would also caution you that there is only one composite video input on this set, and it's on the side. If you have an older DVD player or a VCR or even an older video game system that you want to hook up to this, you'll either have to switch a lot of cables manually, or invest in one of those switch boxes. There are plenty of component video and HDMI inputs, but not much for lower quality feeds.
So my recommendation to you is that if you're going to invest in this TV, invest in some speakers as well. They don't have to be amazing, but just about anything you buy will be better than what this thing comes with. That said, this TV is easily the best picture quality you can get in this size and price range, especially with the prices offered by Amazon (the same set was going for fifteen hundred dollars at the big box stores, and thirteen fifty on sale).
